Evangel Pastoral Staff

Dr. Jeff Lowman, Sr. Pastor

Jeff Lowman is the senior pastor of Evangel, P.C.A. He is a native of Montgomery, Al. Jeff became a believer early in life t­hrough the ministry of Oak Park Presbyterian Church and was called to the ministry at the age of twelve.

He graduated from Belhaven College with a B.A. in Christian Education and from Reformed Theological Seminary, with a Master of Divinity degree in 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he served as associate pastor of Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church. From 1986 to 1990, he served as pastor of the Macon Presbyterian Church in Macon, Mississippi.

Since 1990, he has served as Evangel’s pastor. In 1994, he began teaching at Birmingham Theological Seminary where he serves as professor of Homiletics and Systematic Theology. Jeff is also involved in the training of international pastors in cooperation with Globeworks International Ministry and Mission To The World.

In 2005, he received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Highlands Theological College, Dingwall, Scotland and Reformed Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Sallie have three children, two in college and one with the Lord.


Rev. Alex Goodsell
Associate Pastor of Assimilation/Community

Alex Goodsell has served as Assistant and Associate Pastor at Evangel since August 2005. He is originally from Atlanta, Ga., but moved to Alabama to attend the University of Alabama, receiving his degree in Business Management. After becoming a Christian out of college in 1992, he worked in sales for six years, but was called into the ministry in 1998, and attended Beeson Divinity School, graduating in 2001 with an MDIV. Previously, he was the Singles Pastor at Briarwood PCA. He was ordained in the PCA in 2003. Alex is married to Amy and they have three daughters. He is the Associate Pastor over Assimilation and Community.




Rev. David Maginnis
Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care/Discipleship


David Maginnis has been serving as Associate Pastor at Evangel since 2007, and was previously Evangel's Youth Director since August of 1999. He was born and raised in Winder, Georgia and received his undergraduate degree (B.A. Psychology) from the University of Georgia in 1995. David served as the Student Minister at Calvary Baptist Church in Savannah Georgia from 1996-1999 where he met his wife Hester. They have three small girls.

After leaving Savannah, David attended Beeson Divinity School where he received his MDIV degree in 2003. David was ordained in the PCA in January of 2007 and is Associate Pastor over pastoral care, counseling, and discipleship.



Rev. Grady Simpson, Administrator

Grady Simpson has been serving as the Administrator at Evangel since 2006. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he worked for Southern Bell from 1947-1965, attended Columbia Theological Seminary from 1965-1969, and then was called to pastorates in Atlanta, GA and Clinton, MS. After four years as a missionary in Liberia, East Africa, Grady became an Evangel Presbytery Evangelist from 1977-1980, and then founding Pastor of Evangel Church PCA, ministering from 1980-1984. After being called back to Africa for two years, he held several missions and pastoral positions in Birmingham, finally returning to Evangel as Associate Pastor from 1996-2004. Grady is married to Leta, and they have been blessed with three children, Mike, Trish and Lois.


Benny Collins, Youth Pastor

Benny Collins has been serving as the Youth Director at Evangel since May 2008. He was raised in Greenville, Alabama and became a believer early in life. He was called to the ministry at the age of fourteen. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Speech Communications from Troy University in 2004 where he also was the pastor of Central Baptist Church. He was very involved in Campus Outreach while on campus serving in various leadership capacities. Then he attended Beeson Divinity School of Samford University and earned his MDIV in 2007.Benny served in the Children and Youth department at Briarwood PCA in 2007-2008 where he met his wife, Kim.  Benny was ordained in the PCA in May of 2009 and is an ­Assistant Pastor over the Youth Ministries­.
