Frequently Asked Questions |
- What types(s) of services do you have and are the two morning services different?
Evangel has two morning worship services (8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.) which are identical in form and content. The worship services of Evangel Church are an opportunity for the body of believers to come together corporately to ascribe praise and worth to our sovereign, transcendent God, to adore Him in the beauty of His holiness, and to draw near to our immanent Savior in worship with reverence and awe.
The centrality of God's Word is emphasized through expository preaching.
The musical selections, which are a blend of traditional hymns to contemporary choruses, are chosen based on content, rather than any particular style. The regular participation of the Evangel Choir & Orchestra in both services seeks to help facilitate and lead congregational worship.
- How can I learn more about Evangel, the PCA denomination, and Presbyterian doctrinal beliefs?
Our pastor teaches a quarterly Inquirer’s Classes (Sunday evenings or Saturday mornings), covering the issues of church government, the sacraments, theological distinctives, and he talks about Evangel’s purpose in our community.
We also have a 6 week Visitor’s Class that meets during the Sunday school hour in room 224 (the next one is from January 13th to February 17th). Taught by Associate Pastor Alex Goodsell, this is an exegetical study of the Book of Ephesians that will include teachings on theological and doctrinal issues, as well as cover the areas of church government, PCA history, and our service in the body of Christ.
- How can I listen to sermons if I am absent one week?
There are two ways to listen if you have to miss church due to illness or travel. The 10:45 service is "live" on the web, streaming in real time. (The site is linked on the home page of this website.) The sermons are also available on CD for a small fee. A request form for a sermon CD is available on the welcome counter immediately outside the sanctuary.
- When do Wednesday Nights begin this fall and what do you have for dinner?
Our regular Wednesday Night Connections begin this September (more information can be found under the Connecting link above.) The catered dinner begins at 5:30pm and costs $4 for adults, $2 for children 10 and under, with the maximum family payment being $15.00. Menus can be found on the Wednesday Nights Connections page under Connecting, as can small group topics and youth activities.
- Do you have a Children's Church, and what ages attend it?
We do have a Children's Church which meets during the sermon for all children ages 4 and 5. Older children stay with their families throughout the service, while younger children are kept in the nurseries.
